Zoo

Last year was Sofia's first trip to the zoo. She enjoyed herself but was quite oblivious to the animals and much more interested in the people. Almost as though, in her mind, we had made a special trip to a special place to watch people (and maybe try to grab a few of them too). I think this picture sums up the experience.

One good thing that came out of that outing, as far as Sofia is concerned, is her red panda, otherwise known as "guy". Although he has suffered a dislocated shoulder and has had to withstand being thrown at strangers in a restaurant and more recently into a public pool, he has remained her loyal car companion for the past year.

This year, on the other hand, it was all about the animals. We started off with the bird show -- very intriguing. Sofia actually remained within a 12" perimeter of where we were sitting and only konked her head once on the bleachers.

Then we continued on with more attentive animal viewing. Monkeys are one of her favorites.

Elephants --not so much. Apparently, the less movement the animal exhibits, the not so interesting it is. (After all, who's to say it's not just a robot or something).

She learned a lot of new animal names, including zebra, camel and rhino. Her favorite animal was the "tiga" who was apparently uncharacteristically active that day as there had just been a big thunderstorm that had passed through.
