This year was the first year that we have been able to use the power of Santa Claus against Sofia. I can't say that it was very effective, but we sure did try. Just about every day after Thanksgiving, it was:
us: "you know Sofia, Santa Claus is coming on Christmas, and he only brings presents to children that have been good and listen to their parents".
Sofia: "OK"
Sofia: "Is Santa Claus coming today?"
us: "not yet"
Sofia: "Is it this day that Santa is coming?"
us: "no, not today"
Sofia: "Is Santa coming tomorrow"
us: "no, not until later this month"
Sofia: "Mommy, I saw Santa on the street, he's coming to our house later"
This year was much like last year. We went to Grandpa & Grandma's house on Christmas Eve, opened presents at our house Christmas morning, had brunch at Tia Marcela's house later, visited with Abuelo & Abuela in the afternoon, and brought everybody back to our house in the evening. Sofia got to spend a lot of time with all her family and I think she was ready to repeat the whole thing again the next day.
Sofia received so many gifts at grandpa's house, we didn't even have enough room in the car to bring them all.
We thought we would try to keep away from falling into excess with the Christmas gifts and thoughtfully decided on just a few items for Sofia to keep her head from exploding with spoiled child syndrome. Her main gifts were a toy box designed by Mami and put together by Daddy, (see inspiration toy box here) and a porcelain tea set, plus some stocking stuffers. So far so good. No complaints. Of course, she had already received the boat-load of gifts at grandpa's house the night before.

I thought I'd try a gift to promote girlyness and sophistication, I don't know, maybe even a small measure of decorum.
