not too much whining. We drove to the Redwoods in northern California with an overnight stop in Reno, NV. Then we drove south to Santa Rosa, CA and came back through Reno again.
First Stop: Salt Flats a few minutes from Wendover, NV

We drove to the Redwoods in northern California where we stayed for the first couple of days and tested our outdoor skills by roughing it in a small KOA cabin and endured the element of humidity in the air and beautiful lush green surroundings. We cooked all our meals outside and even had to use community bathrooms. Sofia was most thrilled about sleeping in a bunk bed (and using the community bathrooms).

Hidden Beach: the trail to this beach was very jungle-y and dark, Sofia was tired, weary of tigers, and whiny. But, it didn't stop her from releiving herself (#1) on the beach when we finally got there
Fern Canyon
The second part of our trip was Safari West, where we roughed it in a private African style tent with beds and a full working bathroom. We joined the luxury buffet dinner the first night, followed by the feeding raw chicken to giant catfish, and roasting of marshmallows. The next morning, we went on Safari and walked around a lot. It was really hot during the day and ridiculously cold at night (luckily, there were heated blankets and a heater).

ReplyDeleteI'm glad you guys enjoyed your trip. It's too bad that we don't live there any more. But, perhaps we'll move back some day. :)

ReplyDeleteI've been wanting to see the Redwoods for a while and I got the rundown of the best places to go and stay from my friend Becky. I found Safari West just looking for family vacation spots. I wanted to do something that would be fun for the kids and enjoyable for adults too.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, I found out as soon as we set out on the safari tour that my camara's battery was totally drained so I got 0 pictures of the animals. That and forgetting to bring Marcelo's epipen where my major screwups of the trip.
