Bike Part 3: Going the distance
A couple of weeks after "Bike Plan B", we decided to go ride bikes on a nearby paved trail by a golf course. We got a bike carrier for Chucky and Marcelo road on the front child bike seat on Ray's bike. Yes, he had a heavy load. I can barely ride the bike myself, OK. I told Sofia, it would be a great place to practice with pedals. She wanted nothing to do with it. I told her it was a family activity and we were going with or without her. She told me she was going to run. Aha.
I thought when we arrived and everyone got on their bikes, she would certainly want to be part of the bike riding so I had Ray secretly bring her bike in the other car despite her vehement statements that she would NOT ride the bike. We arrived, got everything unloaded, set up and I started going with Sofia running at my side. This was a bit of a bluff on my part. I figured, she'd walk a small way and then start whining that she wanted her bike. Unfortunately, I lost. She ran the WHOLE way. Albeit, I got sick of going 2.5 mph so she ran by Ray's side most of the way and back. Wow, she really did and she didn't even complain. What a nut job!
As we packed up all the bikes to go home I thought I'd give it one more try. I asked her if she would like to practice. Just her, no one else riding and that I would get her started and Ray would make sure she got to the end target OK. Much to my surprise she agreed. She did just fine. Soon, she was whizzing by down the hill wanting to go further. It's either stubborn as a donkey or full throttle and no regard for safety with this girl.
A week after this, we went to the high school track for practice. So, she can ride her bike now. It's kind of tough for her to get started on her own due to the size of the bike. I later discovered she could maneuver a 12" with no issues at all.
