| This was actually as we were leaving. Sofia, with potted tomato seeds in left hand, and never been so happy, with an Icy on the other. |
A couple of months ago, we went to the Salt Lake City Library for the KUED Reading Marathon launch party. I thought this was a good opportunity for Sofia to participate in as a beginner reader to keep the momentum going. Sofia completed her thirty minutes of reading per day through Novemenber and December. She submitted her reading log to KUED for a special invitation to the party in January. Marcelo, got in too even though he was not on the "guest list".
We thought we'd spend an hour or so there but there was so much for the kids to do, we were there through the end of the first session and for the whole second session. The kids, got bags upon entering in which to collect all their crafts, experiments, and freebies. It was kind of like a convention. There were snacks for the kids and entertaiment, Japanese drummers, a magician, and a scientist. So many things -working dogs, a mini blow-up planetarium. We even got free Scholastics books at the end. Not to mention, all the PBS Kids cartoon celebs. Peter did not find them scary at all. He would run up to them and squeeze them as hard as he could.

| Marcelo was pretty excited about getting to shoot the target. |

Sometimes, when you're not too sure about something, it's best just to look at it out of the corner or your eye. Also, who gave this boy a binkie, or what ever those things are? That should be against the law. |

| The Cat in the Hat's handler sizes up Marcelo's hug approach to determine the threat level. |
 |
| Sofia and Marcelo are sitting down front and center. Marcelo was covering his ears the whole time anticipating the really scary sounds. |
 |
| I really liked the Japanese drummers. For a second, I even thought that might be a fun hobby, but I don't know that I could wear the black bandana or or fabric slipper shoe things. |
 |
| Peter could not get enough of "Dog" form Word World. He was loving him so much, the event photographer kept taking pictures of him. |
