The Dive

Yesterday during swim class, Sofia did the most awesome dive into the pool. Up until now, she has been launching herself from a seated position off of a little platform a few inches above the water's surface like this.

Yesterday, the teacher placed her at the edge of the pool, standing up, and said - OK, jump in! Sofia stood there, her little feet together, arms at her sides, looking at the water. She stood there for a few seconds while we thought she was either getting ready to turn and run the other direction or she was carefully evaluating the conditions and calculating her next move. Then, suddenly, with a little bend of her knees, she elagantly posed herself in the superman position and dove in. Wow, it was amazing! And then she iced that cake by plopping up to the surface and turning over onto a lovely back-float. Yes, I wish I had pictures to show this incredible feat, but unfortunately I only have my poor story-telling skills to rely on here. After she recognized how awesome she had just demonstrated that she was, she eagerly declared "More´!" in her charming new Italian accent.
