"Donggg"

One of Sofia’s favorite recent words is “dong”. I hesitated to put it on the list of favorite words because, quite frankly, we have no idea what it means. At first, we thought it was a mispronunciation of “don’t” – a very popular and well known favorite word among toddlers. But then we discovered that she can actually say “don’t” quite well and with appropriate menacing and self-righteous inflections to go along with it.

We would often hear the “dong” at various times throughout the day.
“Mama? ..…dong?”
“Yes, of course, let me get that for you” ????

I felt quite bad not understanding what it meant, but we finally gave up trying to come up with possible meanings and at one point I jokingly asked her “Are you trying to say –Ding Dong?” I knew she wasn’t; we don’t even have a doorbell. (We violently ripped it off the wall after solicitors kept waking up Sofia with it). But the constant requests for “dong” where starting to drive me nuts. She was quite amused with this interpretation and immediately replied “Dung Dong”. So now when she playfully says to me “Mama? ….dong”, I just say “Ding Dong” and she laughs and says “Dung Dong”. Issue resolved.
