Snow Day – you could call it that

You could call it a “Snow Day” except here in Utah we don’t really ever have snow days. I don’t know what it would take for someone to declare it a snow day and not have to go to work or school. I guess a blizzard with only a few yards of visibility and 50-70mi/hr winds doesn’t qualify.

I started writing an entry about this and it got way too long. So, long story short – last Wednesday a couple of weeks ago, it took us 8 hours to get home from school. Marcelo did excellent despite a couple of crying fits and slept most of the time. Sofia did much better than I might have expected. She played with her “guys” and a valentine’s box. She ate goldfish and chocolate. She demanded orange juice at one point but settled for a promise that the first thing we would do when we got home would be to have a great big glass of orange juice. And she only cried from 8:30pm-9:30pm then slept the rest of the time. I came through without having to be admitted to a mental hospital and Ray was fast asleep on the couch when we finally made it home at midnight despite not knowing where the hell we were due to the fact that I forgot my cell phone at home.

Ray and I didn’t get to bed until 3am after telling him our story, drinking lots of orange juice, eating, cleaning up Sofia, and rescuing Nike from asphyxiation in her dogloo. We took the next day off to rest and sleep. But Sofia was full of energy like nothing had ever happened. So much for catching up on sleep.

  1. You know, almost the same thing happened to me, complete with dead phone and 5 hour (15 mile) commute home in December. Luckily, I got a hold of Jason in time for him to get Sonali from school before both of us were stranded on the roads!
