This late summer, Sofia has gotten to spend a lot more time with her cousin Autumn who is two years younger. She gets so excited when she knows Autumn is coming and plans all sorts of games for them to play. They get along pretty well for the most part with some little power struggles here and there. Sofia even gets excited for Autumns nap time. She helps by laying out all the blankets, pillows, and stuffed animals necessary for the "sleep over" on the floor in her bedroom. One time she even managed to fall asleep herself.
Occasionally, they are not on the same page as evidenced by an incident at Tia Marcelas's house last week. Sofia was quietly watching a movie late at night in the bedroom. I encouraged Autumn to go watch with her. They were alone in the bedroom, there was a bit of arguing and a couple minutes later we suddenly hear a loud bonk. Sofia had pushed Autumn making her fall off the bed backwards. No injuries occurred but when I questioned Sofia as to why she had done this, she tried to explain to me that-- "Autumn was poking me in the eye like 40 or 90 times, and I tried to tell her to stop but she wouldn't". I particularly like the part about the 40 or 90 times.
Most of the time though, Autumn is Sofia's little shadow mimicking her every move, gesture, and noise. And Sofia revels in it all.
