Every Tuesday is Show And Tell day at Sofia's preschool. A couple of weeks ago I was trying to give Sofia some ideas of what to take for Show And Tell and since we had just had Marcelo's birthday party, I suggested she could take his cute picture and talk about her little brother or talk about his birthday party. I figured this would be an easy enough topic even if she didn't want to talk about him, birthday parties is her favorite topic on the planet so she would be able to easily talk about that. She agreed and off she went with his little picture in her Challenger bag.
When I picked her up, I asked her what kind of things she had talked about for Show And Tell. What she proceeded to tell me was rather surprising if not down right shocking considering my mind was only filled with preconceived ideas of her sweetly holding up Marcelo's picture in front of the class talking about his beautiful cake and the yummy cupcakes, balloons and presents and all the wonderment of parties that she adores. Instead, she told a story of how her little baby brother was in her Daddy's tummy for a long time because her Daddy was pregnant and then her Daddy's baby was born at the hospital, etc, etc ... The story was actually rather elaborate and somewhat graphic; the details of which I've since forgotten due to the shock and awe factor of it all.

She has since taken an elephant and a tiger mask as her subjects. Each day it is Show And Tell day, I can't help but cringe slightly as I drop her off. I almost don't want to look at the teacher in the face as Sofia hops out of the car and the teacher asks her what she's brought for Show And Tell. God only knows what she's saying. I now picture her holding up her elephant in front of the class as she announces that she will be speaking about how she and her Daddy do "poop patrol" in the yard, or maybe the "breath of urine" -another one of her favorite expressions.
As we are loading up in the car to go somewhere--
Me: "Ray, the garage smells really bad"
Ray: "Yeah, it's just the car"
Me: "It [the fumes] smells horrible"
Sofia: "Mommy"
Me: "Yes, Sofia"
Sofia: "Does it smell like urine?"
Me: "No Sofia! It's just the stinky car fumes"
Sofia: "But, mommy .... Does it smell like the breath of urine"
